Daniel Befu for Gândul: £ 250,000 British Academy PostDoc Fellowship for Marina Popescu [RO]

Congratulations!

Olivia Judson continues her series on Charles Darwin in the NY Times: on 8-7 she discussed the pros and cons of reading the Origin of Species in the 21st century, and on 15-7 she calls out for retiring the label, „Darwinism”. John Wilkins, in his usual sensible and visionary manner, had already called for this here. [HT: John Wilkins; the first article in Judson’s series is linked here]

In other news, our unfriend Sorin Antohi is doing well, thanks to his friends; Mirela Corlatan and Victor Popescu report for Cotidianul (7-17) [RO] that he’s going to be the director of the Berlin Summer School organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute. Crime does pay!

[Update, 7-21] Romanian-born German writers Herta Müller and Richard Wagner protest against the shameful support the ICR gives to Antohi and Hoişie: see the HotNews coverage by Dani Rockhoff [RO] and Müller’s letter in the Frankfurter Rundschau [DE].
